Healsee Capsules, the world’s leading producer of vegetarian hard-shell empty capsules, plans to invest $65 million in Gaston County, and create 100+ new jobs with an average annual wage of $52,234.

The company, headquartered in China, recently purchased the former Hunter Douglas building in the South Ridge Business Park. Healsee Capsules plans to revitalize the facility into a modern manufacturing and logistics center dedicated to producing plant-based (“HPMC’) empty hard-shell capsules—a vegetarian alternative for the nutraceutical industry.

“Our newest manufacturing facility represents more than just an investment in Healsee Capsules Inc. — it’s a commitment to the future of Gaston County and North Carolina,” said Michael Chen, President of Healsee Capsules Inc. “With an estimated $65 million capital investment and around 100+ new jobs to be created over the next 24 months, we are proud to support local economic growth and contribute to the resurgence of domestic manufacturing. At a time when many companies face global supply chain uncertainty, this facility will serve as a reliable, U.S.-based solution for our customers nationwide. The operations are targeted for late 2026”

“Gaston County has been so good at this in recent years: Reimaging existing spaces for new companies and uses,” Gaston County Board of Commissioners Chairman Chad Brown said. “Having Healsee locate here and see our vision for Gaston County is tremendously meaningful for me. This is an important facility for Bessemer City and for keeping the city’s local economy growing.”

"Healsee Capsules is a blessing for Bessemer City. This investment means new jobs, new opportunities, and a brighter future for our families. We’ve always said Bessemer City is a place of Heartfelt Living, where neighbors care for one another and businesses find a true home" said Becky S. Smith, Mayor of Bessemer City. "This project shows that others believe in us too. As a City with a Heart, we're proud to welcome this growth, and we’re ready to keep building a community where both people and businesses can flourish."
