The Gaston County Economic Development Commission is pleased to announce that Pennsylvania Steel Company, Inc. has purchased an existing manufacturing plant in Stanley. This facility is located at 1000 NC Highway 27 and is 85,380 square feet in size. This purchase was to consolidate all local operations under one roof to better serve the needs of the customer. The investment will be around $2.2 Million in the building purchase. Additional equipment will be added during the relocation from the existing operations.
President and COO, Mr. Barry R. Walsh stated, ?We worked very closely with the Gaston County EDC who was instrumental in helping us locate this ideal facility. It has taken a great deal of time to get to this day but this new facility will allow for product and inventory expansion to better serve our customers. The new Stanley location will compliment our other plant in Greensboro. This consolidation comes as a result of the growth of our customer base. We expect to be fully operational in the Stanley plant within 30 days.?
In September 2011 Pennsylvania Steel Inc. acquired the former Swartz Steel Company which has been servicing the metal needs of Western North and South Carolina for over 30 years. This new entity became the Schwartz Steel Division of Pennsylvania Steel Inc. and offers products to include: Cold Finished bar, Stainless Steel Bar, Alloy Steel Bar, Carbon Tubing, Aluminum Bar, Aluminum Plate, & Tool Steels. In the 2011 announcement, Pennsylvania Steel Inc. said that the Schwartz Steel Service facilities in Gastonia NC would be expanded to accommodate new products and growth. The Gaston County EDC has continued to work, through our existing industry program, throughout the evolution of this business for the last five years.
Stanley Mayor Frank Guida stated; ?First I want to thank Mr. Walsh and his staff for choosing to consolidate and expand their operations in Stanley. This announcement is great news for our Town. Pennsylvania Steel is going to be a wonderful addition to our corporate community. I am looking forward to working with Mr. Walsh and his staff during this transition and years to come.?
