Gaston Countys educational offerings include:
• 52 public schools enrolling over 30,000 in:
30 elementary, 11 middle, 9 high, 1 special, and 1 alternate school. About 88%
subsequently enroll in some form of higher education.
• 15 private schools, both independent and religious
• Technical high school: Highland School
of Technology provides
a more "seamless
transition" for students entering the workforce or going to technical
colleges after the 12th grade. The student body is selected through a lottery system. |

North Carolina Community College System Provides Strong Worker Training Program for Industry
The North Carolina Community College System
New and Expanding Industry (NEIT) Program:
• Provides customized training assistance
in support of new, full-time production positions created in the State
of North Carolina, thereby enhancing the growth potential of companies
located in the state while simultaneously preparing North Carolinas
workforce with the skills essential to successful employment in emerging
industries.
• Serves companies creating 12 or more production
jobs in excess of their previous 3-year maximum employment level. Resources
may support training assessment, program development, instructional
costs, and training delivery for new front-line personnel involved in
the direct production of goods and services and their first-line supervisors.

| Gaston College And Belmont Abbey College Offer Diverse Programs
Gaston College is a state and locally controlled
co-educational institution offering occupational and two-year, principally
bachelors-creditable degrees. Students choose from a variety of associate
degree, diploma, and certificate programs in liberal arts, trade and industrial,

Belmont Abbey College, founded by the Roman
Catholic Church in 1876, is a coeducational liberal arts college offering
